Hurricane season is ramping up, with the first major outbreak expected to occur soon. This year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a seventh consecutive above-average season, based on climate factors that include the ongoing La Niña and warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean.

The New York State Archives can assist you in preparing for disasters in order to safeguard your collections. The Archives provides information on emergency preparedness, developing disaster plans, gathering equipment and materials to protect collections, identifying your organization's priority records, and attending disaster planning training.

The DHPSNY website also offers Emergency Preparedness webinars and additional resources.

If you experience a disaster, call the State Archives main number (518) 474-6926 or the AIC National Heritage Responders 24/7 Disaster Hotline at (202) 661-8068 for help.
