The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA) is seeking an Archives Specialist for our Documentary Heritage and Preservation Services for New York (DHPSNY) Program.
The deadline to register for our next workshop session has been EXTENDED to Monday, March 25! Register below to join us in Niagara County on Monday, April 1 at the the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum for our first workshop of the year, Preservation Planning for Collecting Institutions.
In last week's webinar Temperature & Relative Humidity in Collections Care, DHPSNY Preservation Specialist Gillian Marcus presented an informative overview of the affects of environmental variation on collections and the important steps an institution can take to provide stable environmental controls. Topics included how and why to establish an environmental monitoring program, tools to monitor environments, and tools to help control environments. Gillian also provided a wealth of resources and answered some really great questions.
The deadline to register for our first workshop session of 2019 North Tonawanda is coming up on Friday, March 18! As always, DHPSNY's workshops are presented free of charge for New York institutions, and space is limited. In yesterday's DHPSNY webinar Managing Your Institutional Records, David Lowry, Head, Local Government Advisory Services, NYSA, and Jennifer O’Neill, Supervisor, Scheduling and State Agency Services, NYSA, covered the basics of organizing a records management program at a collecting institution, regardless of size. They explained why having a records management program is crucial and took the audience through the basic elements of a program and the first steps in building one.
Dacia Metes, Digital Archives Manager at the Queens Public Library, took the audience through the fundamentals of metadata in yesterday's DHPSNY webinar "Metadata Matters: The Basics." She explained core concepts and tecniques, including best practices for item- and collection-level metadata, file naming, and systems for capturing metadata—complete with helpful tips and visual aids.
In yesterday's webinar, Black, White, and Read All Over: Addressing Newspaper in Collections presenters Gillian Marcus, DHPSNY Preservation Specialist, and Jennifer Palmentiero, SENYLRC Digital Services Librarian, addressed the challenges of having newspapers in collections and the best practices to preserve, protect, and increase accessibility to these important historical documents.
With DHPSNY’s first Planning & Assessment Services application deadline of 2019 coming up on Friday, March 15, we thought it would be a good time to catch up with some of our alums to highlight each of our services.
We are excited to offer three new workshops for 2019, presented in 15 locations throughout New York State. As always, DHPSNY's education programs are presented free of charge for New York institutions.
