Symposium
Date: Thursday-Friday, October 21-22, 2021
Location: Zoom
Archivists Roundtable of Metropolitan NY invites session proposals for the 2021 New York Archives Week Symposium. This year’s New York Archives Week Symposium theme is RESILIENCE to acknowledge our struggles, celebrate our successes, and explore how we can continue to move forward.
It is no secret that the past year has been full of new challenges for everyone. Navigating a global pandemic, continuing the fight against racism and oppression in all forms, and coping with changes in our professional and personal lives have left us exhausted and burned out. At the same time, we have met these difficulties head on, employing creative strategies to reimagine our work, support one another, and keep moving forward.
Potential topics related to resilience may include
- Creative problem solving
- Working with colleagues in adjacent fields
- Critically examining the role archives have played in sustaining white supremacy
- Exploring ways that archives can play a role in anti-racist practice
- Self-care as a regular practice
Proposals for sessions can be in a variety of formats, including panels, lightning talks, and workshops. Submissions are encouraged from current students, new professionals, un- and under-employed workers, and seasoned professionals. In addition to sessions that will take place over the course of two half-days, we will also be hosting a virtual poster session for the first time.
Apply by Friday, June 25, 2021 5:00 pm EDT.
