DHPSNY Statewide Documentation Planning: Conversations on Local History
Whose identities are represented within our collections? Who is missing from the historical record? The DHPSNY Statewide Documentation Planning project aims to address these questions and to create clear strategies for broadening historic representation throughout New York State’s collections. Your voices are essential to our success and we need to hear from you!
In the most important stage of this project, DHPSNY is hosting eight regional Conversations on Local History in collaboration with the New York Council of Nonprofits. We invite the historical records community to engage in conversation with DHPSNY staff in order to identify under-documented topics and peoples in New York State history, and to share opinions on current collecting activities within the state. Each meeting will be approximately two hours long, and will explore the meanings of “local history,” who is included in or missing from that history, and what resources are needed to support future local and statewide collecting activities. Take advantage of this opportunity to help direct future NY State Archives Documentary Heritage Program activities and ensure a more equitable historical record.
These Conversations are open to everyone in New York State; registration is suggested, but not required to attend. Please see the full schedule of upcoming Conversations and the link to register below. We ask that if you know of any person or group in your community who has collections of cultural or historical significance and who may want to participate, please forward this invitation to them, or let DHPSNY know by contacting us at info@dhpsny.org or 215-545-0613. Also, do not hesitate to contact us with any questions regarding registration or attendance at these Conversations on Local History.
