In last week's webinar Temperature & Relative Humidity in Collections Care, DHPSNY Preservation Specialist Gillian Marcus presented an informative overview of the affects of environmental variation on collections and the important steps an institution can take to provide stable environmental controls. Topics included how and why to establish an environmental monitoring program, tools to monitor environments, and tools to help control environments. Gillian also provided a wealth of resources and answered some really great questions.

In yesterday's DHPSNY webinar Managing Your Institutional Records, David Lowry, Head, Local Government Advisory Services, NYSA, and Jennifer O’Neill, Supervisor, Scheduling and State Agency Services, NYSA, covered the basics of organizing a records management program at a collecting institution, regardless of size. They explained why having a records management program is crucial and took the audience through the basic elements of a program and the first steps in building one.

Dacia Metes, Digital Archives Manager at the Queens Public Library, took the audience through the fundamentals of metadata in yesterday's DHPSNY webinar "Metadata Matters: The Basics." She explained core concepts and tecniques, including best practices for item- and collection-level metadata, file naming, and systems for capturing metadata—complete with helpful tips and visual aids.

In DHPSNY’s second webinar in our funding series, Lee Price, Director of Development at CCAHA, spoke from his experience to explain how to craft a successful narrative for grant applications. With examples drawn from success stories at museums, historic sites, libraries, and archives, he explored the delicate balancing act of meeting all guideline requirements while telling a compelling story and provided many useful tips from the grant reviewer perspective.

Yesterday’s webinar, Policies and Procedures for Deaccessioning, is now available to view here and on our Webinars page. CCAHA Director of Preservation Services Dyani Feige guided viewers through the reasons to deaccession, deaccession policy, mechanisms for disposal, and legal & ethical considerations. Key terms were discussed, and Dyani left viewers with a wealth of additional resources.
