With yesterday's Collection Management Policies webinar, this year's schedule of education programs officially drew to a close. As we wrap up 2017, more than 1,200 people from collecting institutions throughout New York State have taken advantage of DHPSNY's free educational webinars and workshops, and we're excited to carry that momentum into the New Year! Thanks again to everyone who joined us yesterday, and thanks to DHPSNY Archives Specialist Amelia Parks for a very informative presentation!

Thanks to everyone who joined us for yesterday’s webinar, Risk Assessment for Collecting Institutions. Samantha Forsko, Preservation Specialist at CCAHA, led our next-to-last session of 2017, which laid out all of the components of a thorough risk assessment, including guidelines for identifying risks and helpful mitigation strategies.

At DHPSNY, we love to learn as much as we can about collecting institutions of all kinds around the State, and we also enjoy meeting the people behind the scenes who work to carefully document and preserve the State’s rich history. This month, we’re launching a new series of brief conversations with library, museum, and archives professionals and volunteers from around New York. Our first chat is with Josh Vogel, Gallery Manager at the Skyscraper Museum in New York City.

Earlier this month, we began a busy period of conferences with the Greater Hudson Heritage Network's Annual Conference & Awards for Excellence. This week, we're in Buffalo for the annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC), where today at 3:45 PM, DHPSNY Program Coordinator Anastasia Matijkiw will chair a panel discussion on the DHPSNY program, featuring Archives Specialist Amelia Parks and representatives from the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History, Lily Dale Assembly, and Lincoln Center, who have all taken part in DHPSNY's Planning & Assessment Services.

We're excited to announce the publication of our first annual newsletter! The centerpiece of this issue, "Looking Back: Highlights from Our First Year," is a detailed rundown of all that we've accomplished since we went online in the fall of 2016, including a look back at our educational workshops, conference presentations, and Planning & Assesment site visits.

Our latest webinar recording, The Importance of Strategic Planning, is now online! Thanks to our colleague Susan Weinrich, Vice President of Organizational and Community Development at the New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON), who delivered a comprehensive overview of the strategic planning process that highlighted the importance of having a plan in place and how it can help your organization move forward.

Earlier this year, DHPSNY began accepting Planning & Assessment Services applications on a rolling basis, with three review periods scheduled throughout the year. This summer, we concluded our second application review round of 2017, and we're excited to announce that we have awarded services to eight new organizations from around the State.
