Just before the holidays, we announced our first Planning & Assessment Services application period of 2018. DHPSNY accepts applications year-round, with three review deadlines scheduled throughout the year in the spring, summer, and fall. The deadline to apply for the spring 2018 round is Friday, March 16th.

For the latest chat in our ongoing series, we caught up with Robert Clark, Director of Archives at the Rockefeller Archive Center in Sleepy Hollow, Westchester County. The Archive Center houses a number of historic collections and supports hundreds of important research projects each year. We talked with Robert about the history of the organization, a very special New York City street map, and what's in store for RAC in 2018.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our first webinar of 2018, Preservation in Exhibits. DHPSNY Archives Specialist Amelia Parks led a very imformative presentation, discussing strategies for planning and installing exhibits of archival collections using preservation quality materials and following best practices for preservation strategies.

Hello, 2018! It's chilly this week at DHPSNY HQ—not quite as bad as conditions in this photo, but close. Despite the low temperatures, our spirits couldn't be higher as we look ahead to all that we have in store. We ended 2017 having awarded free Planning & Assessment Services to nearly 50 collecting institutions in New York State and with more than 1,000 attendees of DHPSNY's free education programs. We look forward to connecting with even more of you in the coming year.

Earlier this month, we began a new series of brief conversations with library, museum, and archives professionals and volunteers from around New York State. In our latest installment, we caught up with Jamie Quinn, Executive Director at the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Museum of Firefighting in Hudson, New York. Jamie has been at the Museum for 12 years and overseen the continued expansion of an archival collection of handwritten journals, service manuals, photographs, and other items that document the history of firefighting, from the lives of the firefighters themselves to the evolution of its tools and its depiction in popular culture and fine art.

With yesterday's Collection Management Policies webinar, this year's schedule of education programs officially drew to a close. As we wrap up 2017, more than 1,200 people from collecting institutions throughout New York State have taken advantage of DHPSNY's free educational webinars and workshops, and we're excited to carry that momentum into the New Year! Thanks again to everyone who joined us yesterday, and thanks to DHPSNY Archives Specialist Amelia Parks for a very informative presentation!

Samantha Forsko, Preservation Specialist at CCAHA, led our next-to-last session of 2017, which laid out all of the components of a thorough risk assessment, including guidelines for identifying risks and helpful mitigation strategies.
